Welcome
2006 Alaska Geothermal Conference and Renewable Energy Fair
August 20 through 22, 2006
Chena Hot Springs Resort
Chena Invitation (PDF 630KB)
The 2006 Alaska Geothermal Conference and Renewable Energy Fair will be held from August 20 through 22 at Chena Hot Springs Resort outside of Fairbanks.
The Conference will feature the tours of the new power plant, geothermal greenhouse facilities, and a geothermal hydrogen production facility. Meeting sessions will focus on Geothermal Power Applications, Geothermal Direct Use Applications, and Geothermal Exploration. The Alaska State Geothermal Working Group will also meet during the conference. The Renewable Energy Fair features the dedication of the Chena Hot Springs Geothermal Power Plant.
The 400-kW geothermal power plant at Chena is a first-of-its-kind installation that will utilize the lowest temperature (165
o
F) geothermal resource used for power generation worldwide. This groundbreaking technology has been developed in partnership with United Technologies Corporation. Chena Hot Springs is being developed as a sustainable community with commitments to renewable energy, energy independence, self sufficiency and environmental stewardship. All buildings at Chena are linked by a geothermal district heating system. To learn more about the geothermal system at Chena go to

.
In addition to the hot springs, the resort has three greenhouses, geothermally heated to 85
o
F, to provide fresh produce to the restaurant, and an Ice Museum, cooled primarily with the geothermal water through the use of a 15-ton capacity absorption chiller. Other renewable energy projects include a water "ram" used to supply the resort’s water tower, a solar water fountain, and a facility to produce hydrogen through geothermal hydrolysis.
